Today, there are many tasks at home or work have been done by robots. Is this a positive or negative development?

Nowadays, the world is moving towards a direction where robots are doing many tasks in both domestic and business fields. From my perspective, this trend can be deemed both a curse and a blessing – it represents something of a philosophical divide about how people view this tendency.

From the negative perspective, one frequently mentioned apprehension of our over reliance on machinery is the potential risk of unemployment of labor workers, given the fact that more menial work jobs are done by robots, whether these be cashiers in shopping malls or assembling jobs in factories. At domestic level, there is also an assumption that the computerized lifestyle contributes to decreasing public health: the application of robots for housework such as sweeping and washing may exacerbate the sedentary life of family members, thus leading healthy problems such as obesity.

However, these possible percussions brought by robots are not enough to overwhelm their positives. The problem with the above misgivings is the irrelevant connection between the application of new technology and the potential pitfalls – the aforementioned conundrums are based more on fear than logical reasoning; rather, we also have reasons to be optimistic about the trend towards mechanization. While there may be less demand for labor force, we can say that workers are therefore liberated from mundane tasks and can learn to engage in more creative and meaningful work. By the same token, the mechanized lifestyle at home frees many housewives from kitchens and backyards, thus offering them either opportunities to work in offices or allowing them more time to care for children.

Taken collectively, it is my conclusion therefore, the mechanized age can be recognized both as negative and positive, depending on how we view this tendency.
