The past decades have witnessed an increasing trend towards offensive behaviors in society. While it is a complicated problem that should be attributed to multiple reasons, I tend to analyze the conundrum from educational perspective, and then recommend solutions accordingly.
Firstly, it is difficult for me to see the misbehavior as anything other than the result of insufficient school education on social awareness. Despite the tricky social problem includes diverse acts ranging from misuse of public space, disregard for community safety to offensive problems like fighting, all these problems share a common feature – the lack of social responsibility, which disciplines individuals to regulate their behaviors and emotions according to the social rules. By the same token, impoliteness is a symptom of problem to which I see inappropriate parenting as the answer – good manners are usually cultivated by role modelling of parents since preschool years.
According to the above reasoning, the solutions to improve personal behaviors should be also implemented from both aspects mentioned above. To curb anti-social acts, schools should add course of social responsibility to compulsory curricula, thus instilling social consciousness into young minds. Therefore, they can be taught to be contributive to society not only by academic expertise but also by good behaviors. Likewise, parents should set role models in home, for example by using polite words during conversations between family members, from which children can learn to be respectful to others.
I would conclude therefore, the anti-social behavior and disrespect are the result of insufficient education, and the problems can be tackled by both school and parents.
