Some people think that Full-time university students need to spend a lot of time on study, but it is essential to get involved in other activities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Universities are one of the most important institutions in modern society. A large number of students devote most of their time to studying; however it is argued that they should also spend time on other activities such as sports, art and so on. I believe that although studying theoretical knowledge is of great importance, they should also do such activities that keep them motivated and rejuvenated.

Admittedly, students have to make great efforts in order to get a university degree. This is because syllabus of tertiary education require long hours of study every day. Apart from that, assignments and projects are also part of curriculum these days which create huge burden on students. After doing these work and studying, they would not have adequate time for other activities.

However, spending all the time with books can lead to many health problems. For example, it can be stressful, which may results in depression and suicide. Furthermore, students who stick to books are usually not active and have a sedentary lifestyle; as result, they are at risk of being overweight. Simply, all these effects could result in long-term psychological problems and also put students under pressure while studying.

Instead of spending too much time on books, the involvement in other hobbies and activities are highly recommended. First of all, what we learn from professors in university is not sufficient for a future career as it requires more real-life experiences and soft skills such as time management, teamwork, problem-solving which books cannot give. These skills are solely learned from outdoor activities such as participation in clubs and organizations, which not only are well-rounded college experiences but also are a base for stepping into a career ladder. Another reason is that doing competitive activities like sports can both relieve stress after hard-working days and boost self-esteem through achieving goals in matches.

In conclusion, although university courses are demanding long hours of study and hard work, doing other activities is vital for students. So, they are highly suggested sparing their time for other activities instead of sticking their eyes to books all day.
