Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since computer technology is now replacing their functions. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

题目大意

因为电脑科技正在取代图书馆的一些功能,所以保留公共图书馆浪费资金。在多大程度上你是同意还是不同意呢

写作思路解析

The operation of libraries requires substantial investment and many people today tend to read materials online rather than in libraries. Despite this change, I believe that it is worth maintaining public libraries.

Public libraries provide a comfortable place where readers can enjoy reading. Visitors are not allowed to talk loudly or speak on the phone in libraries, and with this quiet atmosphere, they can escape the noise and stress of urban life. They can focus on reading and gain knowledge by maintaining this healthy hobby. In contrast, there are more distractions, such as video games and noisy neighbours, if they choose to read online at home.

Public libraries also play an important part in imparting knowledge to the public and improving the literacy of the general population. Libraries are likely to organise some activities to bring people together, especially those who have common interests. In this way, reading will become a norm in cities, and children who grow up in this culture can develop a positive attitude to this habit from a young age. This can increase employment possibilities and also make them polite and well-mannered individuals.

On the other hand, libraries may become less important in the digital age because people are able to collect information online from the comfort of their homes. This is particularly important for those who cannot visit libraries frequently because of their heavy workload. For this reason, governments can cut funds for public libraries and divert money to other projects such as improving broadband services for more users.

In conclusion, public libraries have an important place in communities even if digital libraries have met the needs of many users for knowledge in the modern world.
