Some say the purpose of education is to prepare individuals to be useful to society. Others say the purpose of education is to achieve personal ambitions. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

People have different views about whether the goal of study is for the benefits of others or students themselves. In my opinion, education does not have a single purpose, while it serves multiple objectives.
Some people may argue that the main aim of education is to training useful people for the society. This is true to some extent. After all, in some countries, the government is the one who invest money in education, so it seems to be reasonable to receive some feedback in form of professionals who will work for the benefit of the nation. Furthermore, with more experienced professionals living in the society, the developments of the nation will be guaranteed. For example, those who are expertise in agricultural science probably educate the farmers how to have a good quality of plants, how to manage the irrigation system well and how to conduct the product sales in the market.
However, this doesn’t automatically mean that students’ personal ambition and satisfaction can be neglected. It is quite obvious that to learn something according to one’s aptitude is an essential key to success. Following someone’s own temperament will ultimately make it very easy for a common person to get uncommon results. It will teach him patience, consistency, determinations which are some desirable traits to become a productive and sound person perhaps. By contrast, if only working for the benefit of others, regardless of personal goals, students would probably end up being frustrated and less motivated.
To conclude, while education should serve both purposes: the prosperity of the society and the fulfillment of personal ambitions, I think students’ aptitude should be prioritized because this can benefit individuals as well as the society as a whole.
